Washington, DC — Today, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Senator Ed Markey introduced a resolution that would move the federal government toward a massive mobilization of resources to achieve 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030, a guaranteed living-wage job for anybody who needs one, and a just transition for both workers and frontline communities. In response, Dream Corps and Green For All issued the following statements:
Vien Truong, President of Dream Corps said, “Rarely has an idea like the Green New Deal exploded into political consciousness so rapidly and I am excited to see this new resolution moving forward. Our country no longer has the luxury of time to debate the best strategies to reduce energy prices and economically help people, or what the right ecology for our planet might be. We need immediate action and bold leadership. I am grateful that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Markey are taking this important step. It is time we deliver fully on the promise of a green economy that provides increased work, wealth, and health for cash-strapped, economically fearful families.”
Michelle Romero, National Director of Green For All added, “Communities of color who are the most impacted by climate pollution and low-income families who spend the highest percentage of their incomes on energy and transportation, have the most to gain from a Green New Deal that’s done right. That’s why Green For All is proud to support Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Markey in introducing a new resolution for Congress to act now and develop a Green New Deal that uplifts all Americans.“
For several months, momentum for a Green New Deal has grown exponentially as more elected officials have spoken out in support of the proposal.
As people around the country wonder what they can do to help, Green For All announced the launch of its #FuelChange campaign to help local leaders bring about a ‘Green New Deal’ in their own neighborhoods, starting with clean cars, trucks, and buses which aims to tackle the #1 contributor to climate pollution in the U.S. — transportation. Through music, education, and leadership development, Green For All will mobilize people across the country to tackle climate change and improve community health through local solutions that bring clean transportation to all.
