On June 29th, the Dream Corps TECH team arrived in New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, a 3-day music festival hosted by Essence Magazine which centers around the culture, style, and brilliance of black women. It is here, in 2014, where Dream Corps TECH got it’s start when Prince announced the launch of our organization in the wake of the Trayvon Martin murder. It is also where our staff has returned year after year to maintain his legacy as a supporter of the black community by embracing their brilliance and potential to build a stronger support network.
Over the span of 3 days, our team shared the story of our work across the country (Dream Corps TECH Fund; Dream Corps TECH Alumni Network; and Coding Corps Marin), and built a community around the goal that STEM belongs to everyone. Those who came to visit our booth at the Path to Power conference were inspired the vision of our work and the impact in the community, and signed on to support our efforts locally and nationally.
In addition to sharing our work, we led a series of workshops presenting various digital tools to help businesses grow to their full potential in the 21st century.
This festival was a celebration of a beautiful and brilliant culture fostered by Essence Magazine. We were fortunate enough to be a part of that celebration and look forward to enjoying the party next year.
