This year, in honor of Father’s Day, we partnered with multi-platinum recording artist Tory Lanez and his Dream City Fund to to provide a moment of celebration and inspiration for 100 Black fathers from around the United States who were recently incarcerated, working to rebuild their lives, and reconnect with their children and families.
These fathers are all part of our Empathy Network, a national coalition of leaders committed to sharing their stories of involvement with the justice system and working to contribute to their communities.
The program will include free “contactless delivery” dinners for the fathers and their families and an assortment of Father’s Day gifts. DoorDash will provide gift card codes directly to the fathers and their families to order family meals on Sunday through their platform. Amazon Music is also providing gift cards as a gift on behalf of the children of those fathers, to ensure they are supplied with gifts to give for their weekend celebrations.
In an open letter to these fathers, Tory wrote:
Congratulations! You’re home. You’re with your family. You deserve to enjoy today! I’m grateful to be a very small part of it. I know as a Black father raising Black children in this world, things aren’t easy. We live in a country that has a broken system. You’re finally free to be with your loved ones… But I know that in many ways you still feel like you are not free. Your record will present you from certain jobs, or from voting, or from getting a small business loan.. There are some states where you’re even banned from having life insurance. You’re treated like you’re not a part society… but I needed to tell you that’s bullshit!! I’m a Canadian. I can’t vote here… But I’m doing the best I can with my platform to make an impact. I have a record, I am not perfect, but I can contribute to the lives of the people around me, most importantly by being a father to my son. You are now being given that same opportunity. The opportunity to make an impact on so many. But most importantly your family. I wanted to send you this gift, to know that you are valuable. You are important! You & your family are worthy of celebration. I wanted to tell you that I have hope for you & for what you will do—to make your community and city a better place. I’m hoping that through this partnership between Dream Corps #cut50 and Dream City Fund, you know that we have your back and our support. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to hit me and I’ll do what I can.

I wrote this open letter to #100BlackFathers and asked @the_dream_corps @cut50 to join me and my #DreamCityFund to bring some joy and celebration to these men for their first #fathersday since being released from incarceration. As a Black father raising Black children in this world, things aren’t easy. We live in a country that has a broken system. I'm looking forward to getting to know these men and their stories, and will continue to find ways to help black men getting back into society feel seen, and valued, and supported. Shout out to @amazonmusic for helping me get them gifts and @doordash for delivering Father’s Day dinner to them and their families across the country.
