And this is not new post-election. Van had "messy truth" conversations before the election with our pals from Meridian Hill Pictures. To check out his pre-election conversations, see below:
November 4th, 2016 (four days before the election)
I got tired of lurching between disgust and despair, over this election.
So I went deep into Trump country -- to start a real dialogue.
The result is a 3-part digital series that I hope can begin to make a difference.
But here is the catch.
My friends at Meridian Hill Pictures and I made this with no money. Dozens of volunteers pitched in. That's it. We have no corporate sponsors or backers. There is no budget to spread the word.
Our plan now is simple -- but it relies on you.
I will post one powerful video a day on my Facebook page and update each day here. I need you to share these videos.
The only way anyone will ever see or hear these remarkable conversations is if YOU share them with someone, who shares them with someone.
Let's see if we can make something POSITIVE go viral.
I appreciate all your love, help and support.
In America today, the establishment is on the ropes, the rebels are on the rise, and now the people are ready to talk. People aren’t just talking, they’re screaming at the top of their lungs. But we can’t seem to listen. In the midst of all the inflammation and toxicity of the election season, we’ve all lost the ability to step into someone else’s shoes and see each other as human beings. We don’t all have to agree, but we can learn a lot from each other. At a certain point people might surprise themselves and say something they hadn’t already thought or heard.
The Messy Truth is about hearing about people’s hopes and fears. The Messy Truth is learning how to argue again. The Messy Truth complicates everyone’s worldview. The Messy Truth is about understanding how people feel and challenging assumptions. This is not gotcha journalism. This is brutal honesty.
