Position Summary

The Green For All (GFA) Communications Manager develops and implements the messaging and media strategies—including creating a communications plan to advance Green for All’s agenda, win policy victories, and build a movement.  The Communications Manager is responsible for establishing a consistent organizational voice by drafting talking points, editorials and blogs, media materials, fact sheets, and website content. The Communications Manager will also be responsible for pitching and placing stories with media outlets. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
●      Develop, articulate and oversee implementation of a strategic plan for communications.
●      Build relationships with thought leaders and public influencers.
Writing
●      Writing speeches, talking points, editorials and blogs for the National Director as needed
●      Establishing a story bank of personal narratives that can be incorporated into media materials, speeches, and fact sheets
●      Crafting background documents for principals as needed in preparation for media interviews
Crafting Organizational Messaging
●       Working with the National Director to develop messages and frames that clearly articulate GFA’s position on a variety of issues related to it’s mission.
●      Effectively translate our messaging into a variety of documents, including talking points, editorials, and fact sheets.
●       Brief staff and ensure that staff is aware of and uses consistent messaging in their respective communications with GFA’s audiences and networks.
●      Staying informed with the changing nature of the public discourse on our issues and suggest new angles/ways for GFA to stay relevant and ahead of the curve.
Media Relations
●      Forge meaningful relationships with a wide range of national and local media; building increasing coverage for GFA.
●      Oversee and direct the management of media relations (incoming requests and outreach)
●      Ensure message consistency in digital, print, and broadcast coverage.
●      Oversee and direct special events that may facilitate media coverage of issues relevant to the goals of the organization. 

Qualifications & Skills

●      3-5 years experience as a writer or communications staffer for an advocacy or political organization, with proven ability to craft strategic messages and other written materials.
●      Understanding of key environmental issues and political landscape.
●      Interest or experience in poverty, economic justice, labor and civil rights issues, green jobs, and clean energy.
●      Ability to do rapid response writing
●      Flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit
